Tottenham Hotspur's Under-21 side were in Checkatrade Trophy action on Tuesday night, slipping to a 4-3 defeat away at League One side AFC Wimbledon.

After Mauricio Pochettino's first team hammered Huddersfield Town 4-0 over the weekend, Tuesday saw the club's youngsters take to the field against league opposition in the somewhat bizarre Checkatrade Trophy.

Shilow Tracey put Spurs in front on 16 minutes, only for Toby Sibbick to equalise for the hosts, and Samuel Shashoua then restored Tottenham's advantage, with Egli Kaja hitting back just moments later for 2-2.

Tottenham again couldn't hold their lead after Kazaiah Sterling made it 3-2, with Sibbick immediately finding an equaliser, before ex-Spurs youngster Dean Parrett pounced in added time to hand AFC Wimbledon a stunning 4-3 win.

With just one point from two games, Spurs will be disappointed with their Checkatrade Trophy performance so far, but some youngsters have caught the eye of Tottenham supporters.

Left wing back Keanan Bennetts particularly impressed for Spurs against AFC Wimbledon, notching two assists in a promising attacking display, earning praise for his pace and skill down the left.

The 18-year-old was hailed by Spurs fans on Twitter during and after the game, with some suggesting that he is 'different gravy' at Under-21 level, praising him for being an 'absolute baller'.

Others noted that Bennetts has been on fire in a left wing back role, and the rave reviews from fans may just suggest that Pochettino has another top youngster on his hands in North London.
