Garth Crooks has told BBC Sport that Everton should try and appoint Watford manager Marco Silva.

Everton have had a terrible start to the season which has left them sitting in 16th place after seven games.

Already the pre-season talk of competing for Champions League places looks fanciful, and manager Ronald Koeman's job is under scrutiny.

Ronald Koeman, Manager of Everton looks on during the Carabao Cup Third Round match between Everton and Sunderland at Goodison Park on September 20, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Crooks believes Watford boss Marco Silva could be the answer, believing he is 'perfect' for Everton.

He said: "If Everton were to dispense with the services of Koeman they should get hold of Watford's Marco Silva.

"He is perfect for the Toffees. He plays bright, attacking football - the sort Everton fans would love - and has an eye for a player."

Silva's Watford are currently defying pre-season predictions themselves by sitting in a lofty eighth place.

Marco Silva, Manager of Watford looks in tought during the Premier League match between AFC Bournemouth and Watford at Vitality Stadium on August 19, 2017 in Bournemouth, England.

Silva had an unfortunate start to managing in England as his Hull City side were relegated last season, but by time he took over the Tigers were already struggling and destined for the drop.

He has experience of European football and even winning trophies at Olympiakos and Silva might well do better than Koeman with this Everton squad.

However, convincing him to join just months after joining Watford could be a tall order, and would be met with fierce resistance by the Hornets.
