Everton's poor start to the season continued on Sunday with a dismal 1-0 home defeat to Burnley, piling the pressure on manager Ronald Koeman.

Koeman had endured a miserable September, with heavy defeats to Tottenham, Atalanta and Manchester United, before an unconvincing win over Bournemouth and a 2-2 draw with Apollon Limassol in the Europa League.

With a third home game in eight days, Everton were hoping to get back to winning ways, but ended up falling to a fourth defeat of the season.

A well-worked Burnley move saw Jeff Hendrick slot home the only goal of the game in the first half, and Everton simply couldn't find a way to break down Sean Dyche's men.

Despite all the big money signings over the summer, such as Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and Gylfi Sigurdsson, Everton look to have regressed from last season, and Koeman has huge questions to answer over the international break.

Fans were disappointed with a whole host of players against Burnley, but one player who received particular criticism was defender Ashley Williams, who look slow and ponderous throughout at Goodison Park.

Williams, who joined Everton from Swansea in 2016, was seen as a defensive leader and proven Premier League centre back when he arrived, but the Welshman is enduring real struggles right now, and Everton fans appear to have had just about enough.

Supporters took to Twitter to suggest that Williams is an 'absolute calamity' in the heart of the Everton defence, whilst others questioned Koeman on why he continues to pick Williams, with the 33-year-old being labelled as the worst Everton centre back in recent memory.
