Under-fire Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha could afford himself the briefest of smug smiles on Saturday as his summer signings inspired a 4-1 comeback victory at Hamilton.
Declan John, a loan addition from Cardiff City, netted twice from left-back while Daniel Candeias and Graham Dorrans again proved their worth as The Gers got back to winning ways in emphatic style after last week’s Old Firm defeat.
But one of Caixinha’s new additions, centre-half Fabio Cardoso, still has a lot to do to convince Rangers fans that he is worthy of a place in their starting XI. The Portuguese youth international, who signed for £1.3 million from Vitoria Guimaraes in the summer, has delivered a ‘mixed bag’ of performances in his early days in Scotland.
After struggling badly against Partick Thistle’s Conor Salmon a fortnight ago, Cardoso was once again given the run around – this time by Hamilton forward Rakesh Bingham.
The 23-year-old former Wigan Athletic youngster left Cardoso choking on his dust before his shot was parried by goalkeeper Wes Foderingham to the grateful Danny Redmond, as Hamilton took the lead inside one minute.
And although Rangers came roaring back, scoring three times in six first-half minutes, Cardoso’s mistake didn't pass the supporters by.
