The Shakhtar Donetsk man would be a superb addition to the Newcastle United squad in January.

The Magpies have begun their 2017/18 campaign with a mixed bag of results, and it is painfully clear to see that Rafa Benitez needs to strengthen his squad in January, if he is to guide his side to a successful season.

Newcastle have scored just six goals in their opening six Premier League outings, with a lack of creativity from midfield and out wide proving to be costly.

The addition of another winger will undoubtedly feature highly on Benitez's wish-list this winter, and an interesting option for them could be Brazilian ace Bernard, who has just nine months remaining on his current deal with Shakhtar Donetsk.

The 25-year-old is wonderfully talented, and possesses incredible skill when in possession of the football. His inclusion in the Toon's side would surely provide them with an entirely different edge to their attacking play.

Standing at just under 5ft 5in tall, the diminutive playmaker possesses a superb low centre of gravity, which makes him a nightmare to play against, what with his ability to drop his shoulder and go either way.

Bernard can play anywhere along the front-line, and his genuine quality and nouse in and around the penalty area would undoubtedly offer Newcastle more potency in the final third.

The only reservation about the Brazilian would be his small frame, and whether or not he could handle the physicality of the Premier League.

With his deal set to expire next summer though, the Tyneside outfit could very well secure themselves a bargain, should they make an offer for his services in January, with the Ukrainian side unlikely to risk losing him for nothing next year.
