It’s a measure of the talent available to Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers that he can afford to loan out a hugely promising player like Ryan Christie and still cruise to the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
The general consensus was that Celtic were right to loan the 22-year-old to last season’s runners-up Aberdeen to ensure he gets the game time required to fulfil his vast potential. Christie won Aberdeen’s Young Player of the Year award during a five-month loan last season and the 2017/18 campaign is shaping up to be even more impressive.
Derek McInnes was effusive in his praise after Christie’s sublime backheel set up Andrew Considine’s winner in the weekend’s 1-0 victory against Motherwell, telling the Evening Express that the former Inverness youngster ‘lights up a game’.
The report adds that Celtic counterpart Rodgers refused to sanction a permanent departure for Christie, demanding that he only move to Pittodrie on loan. And, considering how impressive Christie’s performances have been in the last few weeks, that decision is looking increasingly inspired.
Make no mistake, Christie faces a huge challenge forcing his way into Celtic’s star-studded squad. But, as any Hoops supporter will tell you, he deserves a chance.
