Tottenham youngster is impressing nonetheless at Atlanta United.

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Anton Walkes took the unusual step of apologising to supporters after being underwhelmed with his own performance while out on loan.

Walkes is playing for Major League Soccer side Atlanta United, having agreed a loan deal back in January.

The team sit in fifth place at present, and Walkes has played his role, featuring in 14 of 27 matches.

He started at the weekend against Orlando City but was substituted off with 10 minutes remaining as an entertaining 3-3 draw played out.

Walkes was disappointed with his own display and very open about his feelings after the game.

Commenting on Twitter, Walkes offered an apology to supporters.

A general criticism of loan players is that they are not invested and do not care enough, but that cannot be levelled at Walkes.

The 20-year-old full-back may face a near impossible task to break into Tottenham’s first team, and he is hoping to earn a permanent deal in the US.

Walkes may have felt he was below par against Orlando, but just two days earlier he managed to score in an impressive 7-0 win for Atlanta United over New England Revolution.
