Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that he didn't use Mousa Dembele against Swansea City because he was 'a little bit tired'.

Spurs went into tonight's game with Swansea on a real high, having not only beaten Everton 3-0 in their last Premier League game, but also beat Borussia Dortmund 3-1 in the Champions League in midweek.

Many were tipping Tottenham to finally win their first Premier League game at Wembley when they faced Swansea, with most pundits and fans anticipating a third win in a week for Pochettino's men.

However, it turned out to be a frustrating afternoon for Spurs, as they couldn't break down a resilient Swansea side, who stuck to their task and claimed a 0-0 draw at Wembley.

Spurs have now dropped seven points at home from just three games, having dropped only four points at White Hart Lane in the whole of last season, with Tottenham still facing issues at Wembley.

Pochettino decided to change up some personnel for today's game, with Moussa Sissoko starting whilst Son Heung-min featured in a wing-back role, but one player who didn't play was Mousa Dembele.

The Belgian midfielder was left as an unused substitute, sparking questions about just why he wasn't used, as his drive from midfield could have been useful against a resolute Swansea side.

However, manager Pochettino offered something of a spiky response when asked by Football.London, suggesting that the 'specialists' on football were answering the questions rather than asking them, and if the media had to know just why Dembele – who didn't score many goals last season – didn't play, it's because he was tired from playing against Borussia Dortmund in midweek, with a rest maybe wise given his injury problems in recent years.

“Dembele was on the bench,” said Pochettino when asked why he didn't play the midfielder. “Yes, how many goals did he score last season? You need to ask me about Dembele. You cannot give your opinion about football because I think the specialists are up here. What is your question, why I didn't play Dembele? Ok, because we believed he was a little bit tired after Wednesday and I think he needed to rest,” he added.
