Everton’s disappointing start to the 2017-18 campaign continued on Thursday evening, as they went down 3-0 to Atalanta away from home.
The Toffees lost badly to Serie A outfit Atalanta at the Stadio Citta del Tricolore in Reggio Emilia in Italy in their opening Europa League Group E game.
The defeat followed Ronald Koeman’s side’s 3-0 loss at the hands of North London outfit Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park in the Premier League.
The performance of Everton against Atalanta was hugely disappointing, especially at the back, as they conceded all three goals in the opening 45 minutes.
Over the course of the 90 minutes at the Stadio Citta del Tricolore in Reggio Emilia on Thursday evening, visitors Everton had 49% of the possession, took 13 shots of which three were on target, and earned two corners, according to BBC Sport.
There was a mixed response from the Merseyside outfit’s supporters to Koeman’s post (we have posted some of them below), although some of the fans who were not pleased with the result and the performance did not hold back,
Former Everton star Phil Neville posted a screenshot of a few of the vile tweets on his Twitter page - which we cannot show due to the language in those tweets - to which Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has responded quite sarcastically.
Very disappointed match! A really poor first half in all aspects, without the right attitude and… https://t.co/c0X9FZrNwG— Ronald Koeman (@RonaldKoeman) 14 September 2017
Ronald Koeman is open enough to be on twitter-he posts his thoughts on here after what was a poor performance-the replies are a disgrace! pic.twitter.com/Omg0HjjqWr— Philip Neville (@fizzer18) 14 September 2017
Some mixed and constructive responses from Everton fans to Koeman’s message on Twitter:
I trust you’re the right man for the job. Onwards and upwards— ⓂⓊⓁⓋ (@James_Mulville) September 14, 2017
Don't think the second half was any better. Utter embarrassment. No comment, no desire, no real shape to the side.— Shaun Gosney (@ShaunGosney) September 14, 2017
Bring on Niasse he has the right attitude and something to prove!— uknicks (@uknicks) September 14, 2017
Team has gone backwards, no pace at all in the team formation all wrong players look like they don't know what they are doing most of time— Shaun smith (@shaun85smith) September 14, 2017
Honest boss never hides we will be stronger for this— up the toffees (@jennifer1878) September 14, 2017
The reaction on Sunday is main concern. I'd play a team with players that know what playing for the blue shirt is about! Very concerned— Paul (@tubby_toffee) September 14, 2017
You can't put us through that again. Play players in their position and make them fight for the jersey. Tonight was disgraceful.— Jay G (@Jago1878) September 14, 2017
Face facts, you don't get the club and you don't get the fans , if you did, it wouldn't all be about you and everyone would be smiling— @StephenDavid60 (@SteD1960) September 14, 2017
