According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Aston Villa are interested in landing Saint-Etienne manager Oscar Garcia as question marks hang over Steve Bruce.

Villa only appointed Bruce as Roberto Di Matteo's replacement in October 2016, and backed him heavily with the likes of Neil Taylor, Birkir Bjarnason, Conor Hourihane, Henri Lansbury and Scott Hogan all arriving in January.

The same backing continued over the summer, as Bruce was allowed to bring in John Terry, Ahmed Elmohamady, Glenn Whelan and Robert Snodgrass, but results have not matched the investment.

Villa drew 0-0 with Middlesbrough on Tuesday night, meaning it's two goalless home draws in a row, and just seven points from seven games so far as Villa have failed to hit the ground running after being one of the favourites for the title.

Some fans are now calling for Bruce to be sacked as Villa desperately attempt to return to the Premier League, and Spanish newspaper Sport report that Villa have made tentative moves for Saint-Etienne manager Oscar Garcia as a result.

Garcia, 44, only left Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg over the summer in order to take charge of Saint-Etienne, but with three wins from five league games this term, he has really caught the eye.

A former Barcelona youth coach, Garcia may be remembered by some fans for having managed Brighton and Watford in the Championship, particularly impressing with Brighton, having taken the Seagulls to the play-offs in 2014.

Garcia won the last two Austrian Bundesliga titles before heading to France, and Villa appear to be interested again, after Sport also reported after Di Matteo's sacking last year that Villa were keen to land Garcia from Red Bull Salzburg.

Prising him away from Saint-Etienne won't be easy, but this is the first link to a new manager this season for Villa, suggesting that Bruce may well be under increasing pressure after a tough start to the season.
