By the end of Kyle Walker's tenure at Tottenham Hotspur, he had been replaced as first choice right-back by Kieran Trippier, but the latter how has another battle on his hands following Serge Aurier's arrival in North London.

Trippier has started the last three league matches for Spurs and will have no intention of giving up that slot after the Ivory Coast international arrived in the final throes of the summer transfer window.

This evening's Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund will go some way to proving who manager Mauricio Pochettino feels is his strongest option against Europe's elite and, assuming Trippier gets the nod, a solid performance against some of the best attacking talent in world football would ensure Aurier gets the message loud and clear.

Both players will have chances this season, with Tottenham competing in four competitions, but can Trippier fight off another challenge and ensure the former Paris Saint-Germain man is fighting for scraps, at least in his early months at the club?

Trippier played three of Tottenham's six Champions League games last season and lost just one - against a majestic Monaco team - so he has previous in this competition.

So does Aurier, but if his new teammate can help Tottenham to a famous win this evening, the new addition may struggle for European recognition this time out.
