Former Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield Town manager Chris Powell has told Sky Sports that Sheffield Wednesday will finish in the top six of the Championship this season.

Wednesday have ended up in the playoff spots in each of the past two seasons in the Championship.

The Owls have one of the best squads in the Championship this campaign and are expected by many to challenge for the playoffs once again.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side, though, have not made a strong start to the season and are quite low in the standings at the moment.

In fact, Wednesday are as far behind as 16th in the Championship table, having managed to pick up just six points from five matches.

Former Charlton and Huddersfield boss Powell has backed the Owls to clinch a place in the playoffs this season.

“I fully expect them to be in the top six,” Powell told Sky Sports about Wednesday.

Wednesday will return to action this evening when they take on Nottingham Forest at the Hillsborough Stadium in the Championship and should be confident of winning against Mark Warburton’s side.
