Tottenham Hotspur spent a record fee to sign Davinson Sanchez last month and there are high hopes for the Colombian.

Ajax were extremely reluctant to let him leave just one year after he signed for the club from Nacional but the defender was keen to join the Premier League club.

His exit is still causing waves in Holland, with the Dutch club criticised for failing to replace him properly.

Ajax 1 report critical comments from analyst Freek Jansen, who said: "They have not replaced Sanchez."

Former Ajax coach Aad de Mos went a step further, criticising Ajax's activity while lauding the Colombian.

He said: "They lost the core, Peter Bosz {manager) they lost. Sánchez was a beast."

He added that further key departures of Davy Klaassen to Everton and loanee Bertrand Traore were key blows from which Ajax are yet to recover.

The Dutch club had a terrible start to the season, crashing out of Champions League qualifying and then Europa League qualification.

Both of these came amid the backdrop of Sanchez's departure which particularly overshadowed the Europa ties.

At Spurs the centre-back will get the chance to play in the Champions League, and could take on his former boss Peter Bosz next week if he is selected to take on his new side Borussia Dortmund.

The defender's knowledge of his set up and approach could even prove to be an ace in the pack amid Tottenham's preparations for the fixture.
