Eric Dier in action for Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur's Eric Dier was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United throughout the summer transfer window.
United ultimately signed Nemanja Matic from Chelsea instead, and the Serbian has made a promising start to his Old Trafford career.

While it remains to be seen how interested - if at all - the Red Devils were in Dier, Tottenham were able to keep hold of him nonetheless.
And despite scoring in England's 2-1 win against Slovakia on Monday, the born-again midfielder's performance left United fans convinced their side have made the right call.

Don't believe for one second that Dier was a target above Matic... Matic is several levels above— Stephen Farrall (@StephenJFarrall) 4 September 2017
England fell behind to Stanislav Lobotka's third-minute goal at Wembley, but recovered through the Tottenham player shortly before half-time.
And 14 minutes after it, Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford atoned for his earlier error by sealing the three points for Gareth Southgate's side.
Were Manchester United right to go for Matic over Tottenham's Dier?
