Tottenham Hotspur completed two pieces of incoming business on deadline day, but they also appear to have missed out on a third deal due to work permit issues.

Spurs, who added Paulo Gazzaniga, Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez before the deadline, also tied up the signings of right back Serge Aurier and striker Fernando Llorente in the final hours of the transfer window, snapping them up from Paris Saint-Germain and Swansea City respectively.

All five players will strengthen the Tottenham squad, but it seems that Spurs may have missed out on a sixth signing, with conflicting reports emerging over the club's interest in Paris Saint-Germain winger Lucas Moura.

Moura, 25, emerged as one of football's brightest young talents with Sao Paulo, but has failed to live up to his billing with PSG and has been pushed down the pecking order, after notching 33 goals and 33 assists in 148 league games for the French giants.

The Daily Star initially claimed that PSG had offered Tottenham the chance to sign Moura before the deadline, but Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino had turned down that opportunity.

However, Sky Sports News (31/08/2017, 8:30pm) reported that Spurs did actually want to sign Moura, but found that they didn't have enough time to obtain a work permit for the Brazilian and complete all the formalities involved in deal.

It's unclear just which story is true, but Tottenham fans have been taking to Twitter to react to the story that a work permit scuppered Moura's move to North London.

Many are frustrated that a deal couldn't be done earlier in the window, suggesting that it's another example of just why Tottenham must do their business earlier, rather than in the final days.

Some really wanted to see the pacy wide man arrive in North London, and even believe that Tottenham could return for Moura during the January transfer window.
