Newcastle fans have been reacting to a report coming out of the Daily Mail which suggested that the Magpies are considering selling Dwight Gayle during the final days of the transfer window.
Gayle has enjoyed an excellent time since arriving at St James' Park last summer, proving to be their top goalscorer as they secured automatic-promotion out of the Championship at the first attempt.
However, the early stages of this season have certainly not gone as well for the 26-year-old, with no goals coming in either of his first two Premier League appearances.
And he could only look on as both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Joselu got on the scoresheet in the weekend win over West Ham.
With an international break now ahead, it appears that the former Crystal Palace man may well have already played his final game for the club as the Daily Mail reported that Newcastle could consider selling him during this window to raise funds to pursue some of their remaining targets.
Interestingly, the news has received a mixed response amongst the fans, with the edge seemingly being given to the idea of cashing in on the forward during this window.
Gayle has a decent but unspectacular record in the top flight, and a large section of the supporters appear to agree with the club's reported stance that selling him could be the best move.
However, there are also some fans who feel that Gayle's form last season has meant that he has earned the right to prove himself at the highest level, and thus, selling him would be a mistake.
Here is the best of the reaction...
Thoughts on Gayle. If we can get good money and use it towards a better striker. Sell him. #nufc— Toon Army San Diego (@ToonArmySD2) 27 August 2017
Love Gayle but he's not ready for Premier league so if we offload him then we can get an upgrade.#NUFC— Lightning (@shawwal_96) 27 August 2017
I like Gayle. I think, when fit, he'll score valuable goals for us. Keep him, get him right. Patience. #nufc— Kind of a big deal (@grahamcrosby) 27 August 2017
If someone in the Champ wants to hand us £20m for Gayle, then I'm ok with that if it's reinvested. Aston Villa, I'm looking at you #nufc— Andrew Long (@NutcaseOReilly) 27 August 2017
True, I rate Gayle I do, but if the thought we could sell him to fund a player like Jovetic surely it's a no brainier ?— Nathan Brannen (@NathanBrannen) 27 August 2017
20/25mil atleast for Gayle.. I personally wouldnt even consider a sale as he's a natural goalscorer with pace! #NUFC— Dayle (@DayleBarron) 27 August 2017
You think Gayle will get 15 goals this season? If he's our main option, we're in bother. Take the money.— Danny Allen (@Dannyallen757) 27 August 2017
Exactly, Joselu and mitro done have pace so having a player like Gayle is essential for us when mixing it up, I'd like to see us go 4-4-2— Kevin wood (@Kevwoodh24) 27 August 2017
Sell Gayle, get Remy on loan, then invest the Gayle money on an actual number 10?? #nufc— Dom (@DomP3arson) 27 August 2017
Tell you what. With our current striking options, I'd cut our losses with Gayle if it meant getting another 2 in. #NUFC— Connor. (@CHPopadom) 27 August 2017
