According to The Scottish Sun, Burnley are interested in signing Simunovic from Celtic this summer.
It has been reported that the Premier League outfit are lining up a £10 million bid for the 23-year-old central defender.
The Scottish Sun has claimed that Russian club Spartak Moscow are also interested in securing the services of the 23-year-old centre-back.
Former Celtic striker Sutton has stated that Simunovic is the best central defender in Brendan Rodgers’s team.
The Englishman has also stated that Celtic should not sell the Bosnian in the summer transfer window, while expressing his concern about the 34-year-old goalkeeper Craig Gordon.
“Most importantly, Jozo Simunovic simply can’t be sold,” Sutton wrote in The Daily Record. “The Croatian might have issues with one of his knees, but he’s still the best defender the club has and he cannot be allowed to leave, regardless of whether or not Burnley or anyone else want to put down £10 million.
“If he is, Celtic have to go and buy someone else because, although the manager seems to like Dedryck Boyata, I remain unconvinced for the elite level.
“Craig Gordon is also a concern for me. I don’t like having a go because he’s been a good signing, but there were times against Astana when he didn’t instill any confidence.”
Simunovic is a very good and talented young defender, and Celtic should do all they can in order to retain his services for the 2017-18 campaign.
With the Glasgow giants having progressed to the group stage of the Champions League this season, the defender will be important if the Hoops are to make an impact in the competition.
