Walsall have taken Stourbridge striker Jordan Archer on trial with a view to a move, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

6ft,3in striker Archer has been earning rave reviews for Stourbridge already this season and he is currently leading goalscorer in the Evostik Premier League with five goals in four games.

The 23-year-old, who has been likened to former Liverpool and Aston Villa star Stan Collymore due to his style of play, joined Stourbridge last November and his performances have brought him to the attention of several Football League clubs.

Archer, who is from Walsall, has been offered the chance to try and win a deal at his hometown club after joining the club on trial this week.

Walsall boss Jon Whitney will cast an eye over Archer at close quarters to see if can make the grade at the League One club.

Walsall have started the new season with four points from their opening three games, but Whitney is still looking to add to his squad before the close of the transfer window and he could Archer a deal if he impresses during his trial.

Stourbridge are unlikely to stand in Archer's way if Walsall offer him the chance to move into the Football League and join the professional ranks
