With just over a week remaining in the transfer window, Patrick Schick is still a Sampdoria player. His £26 million move to Juventus fell through last month after a heart defect was detected in his medical, as reported by The Sun, but that does not appear to have put off rival suitors.
Czech publication Daily Sport claimed recently that Tottenham Hotspur have been tracking the 21-year-old forward since April, when he exploded into form in Serie A, netting a stunning solo goal against Crotone reminiscent of Arsenal great Denis Bergkamp.
And the report adds that Spurs are still keen, despite his affordable buyout clause expiring mid-way through last month, meaning Samp can now demand far more for their prized asset.
However, Calciomercato reports that a bidding war could be about to begin with Roma plotting a move to make Schick, who scored 11 goals in just 14 Serie A starts last season, their marquee summer signing.
The Algerian winger confirmed his desire to leave the King Power Stadium at the start of this summer but, deep into August, he is still a Leicester player. And, to Mahrez’s credit, he continues to perform impressively despite angling for a move away, putting the likes of Virgil van Dijk, who has gone on strike to force a move from Southampton, to shame.
Sky Sports reported recently that Roma have had three bids rejected for Mahrez, the last totalling a club-record £32 million. However, with The Foxes demanding upwards of £40 million, it appears unlikely that the 2016 Premier League Player of the Year will replace Mo Salah at the Stadio Olimpico.
Therefore, Leicester have inadvertently added another bump in the road as Spurs attempt to lure Schick to North London.
