Leeds United are reportedly keen on Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes.

Leeds United are set to be dealt a late transfer window blow with Chris Wood set to join Burnley – and the attention will now turn to finding a replacement before the transfer deadline.

Wood, 25, was Leeds’ hero last season with 30 goals in all competitions, but Sky Sports report that he has arrived for his medical with Burnley ahead of a £15million move to Turf Moor.

That leaves a huge hole in the Leeds attack, especially with summer signing Caleb Ekuban suffering an injury against Sunderland on Saturday and Marcus Antonsson loaned out to League One side Blackburn Rovers.

Now, the Daily Mail report that Leeds are plotting a move to sign Sheffield Wednesday forward Jordan Rhodes, viewing him as a possible replacement for Wood in Thomas Christiansen’s side.

Rhodes, 27, made his name with Leeds’ West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town with 87 goals in 148 games for the Terriers, before enhancing his reputation with 85 goals in 169 outings for Blackburn Rovers – but his fortunes since then have changed.

A move to Middlesbrough saw him score just six times in 24 games before being sent to Sheffield Wednesday in January of this year, and despite scoring just three times in 20 games on loan, the Owls did activate their purchase option on the Scotland international this summer.

Rhodes is already on the chopping block though, and Leeds may look to tempt their Yorkshire rivals into selling the striker already, in the hope that he can rediscover his goalscoring touch at Elland Road.

The rumours have sparked a real reaction from Leeds fans on Twitter, with some believing that he can still be the goalscorer that Leeds need in place of Wood, having proven it in the second tier earlier in his career.

However, others are completely against signing Rhodes, claiming they don’t want him at Elland Road given that his career has been in a downward spiral over the last 18 months, adding that Leeds need somebody with pace up front, rather than a penalty pox poacher like Rhodes.
