Gylfi Sigurdsson has clinched his long awaited move from Swansea City to Everton for a club record fee.
The Toffees paid £45 million for the Iceland international, a sign of their growing financial strength which has already been on show this transfer window.
The £45 million is more spent on one player than rivals Liverpool have spent in total this transfer window, with just Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson signed for a combined £44 million.
While Everton have lost top scorer Romelu Lukaku, they have been active in the transfer market all summer, signing players able to contribute in all areas of the side.
Everton are hoping to break into the top six this year and mount a serious challenge for a Champions League place.
Adding Sigurdsson, one of the Premier League's most productive players will only help them out.
Liverpool meanwhile are scrambling to hold onto key player Coutinho amid strong interest from La Liga giants Barcelona.
Reds fans had a mixed reaction to Everton's record capture, with some critical, others jealous, and more upset that Everton's record signing is now bigger than Liverpool's.
Here is a look at the reaction on Twitter...
Deep down I kind of wish we went for Sigurdsson. Prem. league proven. #lfc— Nicholas Vargas (@NV_ENVY_NV) August 16, 2017
However much he cost, Sigurdsson is a good signing for Everton. Wanted him at Liverpool a few years ago, would probably take him now! #LFC— Simon Peacock (@THESimonPeacock) August 16, 2017
If Liverpool signed Gylfi Sigurdsson our front four would be:— Eslam Van Buuren (@Eslam_AlamEldin) August 16, 2017
Coutinho, Mané, Salah, Firmino. #LFC
Gylfi Sigurdsson's signing means Everton's record buy is now higher than ours. #lfc— Laüren Coch (@LfcLrn) August 16, 2017
Sigurdsson has signed for Everton for £45m. Their club record signing is more expensive than ours. We will never hear the end of this #LFC— Sherlin (@SherlinGovender) August 16, 2017
