Ian Wright has praised Everton's move for Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Pundit Ian Wright has told Sky Sports' The Debate, that he thinks Everton and Liverpool may now be on an even footing after the Toffees landed Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Everton have splashed the cash this summer, with Ronald Koeman bringing in the likes of Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Sandro Ramirez and even former Toffees prodigy Wayne Rooney in a big summer at Goodison Park.

Farhad Moshiri has got his chequebook out again this evening though, as Everton have completed a club-record deal to sign Swansea City playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson on a five-year contract.

BBC Sport report that the fee involved in Sigurdsson's move was £45million, meaning that the Toffees' outlay this summer has far exceeded £100million as they pursue a top six finish this season.

Sigurdsson his nine goals and 13 assists in the Premier League last season, meaning he will bring real creativity to the Everton side, though just where he will play in Koeman's setup remains to be seen.

On Tuesday night, with Sigurdsson's move almost complete, pundit Ian Wright has told Sky Sports' The Debate that he thinks Sigurdsson is an excellent signing for Everton, boldly claiming that he is the best player in the Premier League outside the top five clubs.

Wright also added that he thinks Everton and Liverpool may now be neck-and-neck off the back of Sigurdsson's move, with Everton's strong transfer window closing the gap to the Reds - capped off by landing Sigurdsson.

“I think Gylfi Sigurdsson, for me, is by far the best player outside the top five,” said Wright. “His figures, his numbers prove that, and I think it’s disastrous for Swansea, but for me, Everton are getting one of the top player - it’s a fantastic signing for Everton.”

“If Sandro nicks goals, and then you’ve got Rooney playing well, and now you’ve got Sigurdsson, Michael Keane and Pickford, then all of a sudden, you’ve got to say that Everton up against Liverpool is quite an even match there, so I’m quite looking forward to that,” he added.
