Jordan Veretout's spell at Aston Villa did not work out as planned, but the midfielder's career is moving in the right direction.
Veretout was signed under manager Tim Sherwood but could not make an impact during the club's woeful 2015/16 Premier League campaign where they were relegated with just three wins.
Last season Veretout was loan at French club St Etienne, and his performances there were enough to earn him a switch to Fiorentina.
He is already making a strong impression at the Serie A side, with club vice-president Giancarlo Antognoni speaking to the press to speak highly of the 24-year-old this week.
Jordan Veretout of Aston Villa during the Pre-Season Friendly between AFC Telford United and Aston Villa at New Bucks Head Stadium on July 12, 2017 in Telford, England.
The former Italy international told Tuttomercatoweb: "He is still a young player, his best year was in Nantes with so many goals and assists.
"He is a modern midfielder, he played in the national team and is a world champion Under 20.
"He is complete and has a great vision of play. We have changed a lot, we have so many young players and there is a need for the right time to put them in."
Veretout did not score at all in his 29 appearances for Aston Villa in the Premier League, and did not hang about to play in the Championship.
He netted four times for loan side St Etienne last season and played in the Europa League. The French side were left stunned when he decided to switch to Italy instead.
Now is the time for Veretout to live up to his potential. Leaving France once was a gamble which backfired. This time he will hope for better luck, and to repay the faith Fiorentina clearly have in him.
