Celtic are trying to re-sign the Manchester City winger by tonight's Champions League deadline.
Celtic can still register one 'wildcard' player to their Champions League squad ahead of tonight's 11pm deadline, with play-off opponents Astana due at Parkhead on Wednesday.
Patrick Roberts in action for Celtic
The Bhoys are said to have been 'locked in talks' with City on Monday as they look to secure Roberts' return, and it is claimed that further discussions will take place today.
Roberts is reported to want to a return Glasgow, where he has spent the past 18 months on loan, despite City's preference that he is 'tested at a higher level' amid interest from a string of clubs including Southampton and Nice.
But Celtic's hopes could be complicated by the 20-year-old's inclusion in City's squad for Tuesday's friendly against Girona in Spain.
Nevertheless, it is not thought that failing to meet tonight's deadline will signify the end of Celtic's chances, as future recruits can still be registered ahead of the Champions League group stage should the Bhoys get there.
