Newcastle are reportedly keen on Genoa's Diego Laxalt.
Newcastle are pressing ahead with their attempts to bring in new signings ahead of the transfer deadline later this month, especially after losing 2-0 at home to Tottenham Hotspur on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.
The Magpies have so far managed to bring in Florian Lejeune, Javier Manquillo, Mikel Merino and Jacob Murphy, whilst Stoke City's Joselu is an imminent signing and Christian Atsu made his loan move from Chelsea permanent.
Manager Rafael Benitez has been frustrated in the transfer market this summer, and it's imperative that he is given the backing to bring in quality signings before the end of the transfer window later this month.
With Paul Dummett injured, a left back could be a priority for Benitez, with the Daily Mail reporting that Newcastle are now interested in signing Genoa star Diego Laxalt, who can play all the way up the left flank.
The Uruguayan, formerly of Inter Milan, hit one goal and four assists last season whilst impressing as a left wing back for Genoa, and Newcastle may actually have the ideal opportunity to land a part-exchange deal for Laxalt.
Achraf Lazaar of Newcastle United
Lazaar was a star in Italian football with Palermo, but he failed to start a single league game for Newcastle last season following a summer move to St. James' Park, with the Moroccan international now seemingly surplus to requirements under Benitez.
With Genoa interested in signing Lazaar as Laxalt's replacement, it gives Newcastle the perfect chance to kill two birds with one stone in a swap deal, giving Benitez the player he wants on the left in Laxalt whilst also getting Lazaar off the books after a miserable year on Tyneside - and the latest reports of Genoa's interest should spark Newcastle into life with an offer.
