Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing the 24-year-old, and could tempt him to Anfield should they lose Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.

"Lanzini is special, and with new players like Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic around him, he can have an even bigger impact," said Gayle, as quoted by The Sunday Mirror (printed edition, press reader)

"He is one of those gifted players who can create something. Lanzini puts me in mind of Trevor Brooking and Alan Devonshire.

"Lanzini will be the next player to go for an astronomical fee."

Lanzini is on a £35,000-per-week contract at West Ham that lasts till 2020. According to reports from The Daily Mail, the east London club want to improve his terms by at least doubling his wage to £70,000-per-week to ensure that he stays.
