Everton snapped up Sandro Ramirez from Malaga this summer.

West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic has told Slobodna Dalmacija in his native Croatia that he wanted to sign Sandro Ramirez this summer, but the forward chose a move to Everton instead.

The Hammers opened their Premier League campaign with a 4-0 defeat away at Manchester United, as a brace from Romelu Lukaku as well as goals from Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba handed the Red Devils a thumping win.

Manager Bilic won't be happy with the result, especially as he started all four of his summer signings, with Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta, Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez all featuring from the off.

Today's defeat may just leave West Ham looking to the transfer market again before this month's deadline, but Bilic has now revealed that the Hammers did in fact miss out on another attacking addition this summer.

Speaking to Slobodna Dalmacija in his native Croatia, Bilic has revealed that he wanted to sign Everton new boy Sandro Ramirez earlier this summer, but he chose the Toffees - and he noted that he brings different attributes to outgoing Romelu Lukaku at Goodison Park.

"Ramirez from Malaga came in, he was in Barcelona and we wanted him but he chose Everton," said Bilic. "He is a quick player and has no traits like Lukaku. They lost his strength, but gained speed [in Ramirez]," he added.

Ramirez, 22, struggled to make the grade with Barcelona but starred with Malaga last season, notching 14 goals and three assists in 30 La Liga appearances before making his move to Merseyside.

The Spaniard started against Stoke City on Saturday but couldn't find the net, though he is expected to be key part of Ronald Koeman's attack this season thanks to his pace and movement off the shoulder of the last defender.

Sandro could have taken up a role on the left of West Ham's attack or even through the middle, and whilst Bilic will be happy to have Arnautovic and Hernandez on board, the Hammers will now watch on wondering what Sandro could have done at the London Stadium.
