Everton edged out Stoke City with a decent 1-0 win at Goodison Park.
Everton kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 1-0 win over Stoke City at Goodison Park on Saturday.
It was a solid if not spectacular showing from Everton who, in addition to Rooney, also had Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez making their bows.
Stan Collymore was not overly impressed by the former Manchester United man - the club's all-time leading goalscorer - and claims that his legs have gone, but admitted that he was impressed by 19-year-old Tom Davies, who had a half-an-hour cameo.

Brain is willing, legs just can’t carry the lad into dangerous areas anymore. Working his socks off, just too easy to tag now.

Rooney’s legs have gone which is just as well he scored with a bullet header.

Nope, will be proven right over the season. Great goal , great header though. https://t.co/I5H2wqsBbX— Stan Collymore (@StanCollymore) August 12, 2017
The teenager started 18 Premier League games for Everton last season and he could well have a big role to play again.
Ronald Koeman's side simply must finish in the top four this season, having spent over £100 million on players, but this was a good starting point.
