Kalvin Phillips looks like being a big player for Leeds United this season.

Speaking to Radio Yorkshire, Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has admitted he was frustrated not to be playing last season, conceding that the thought of leaving on loan this summer was in the back of his mind.

It's early days but Phillips looks set to be a big player for Leeds this season after scoring twice in the 3-2 win at Bolton Wanderers last weekend, having only scored once in 33 Championship outings under Garry Monk last term.

The 21-year-old, who signed a new contract this week, was used sparingly by Monk in the second half of last season, and Phillips admits it was "frustrating".

But although the youngster admits that the idea of leaving Leeds on loan was in the back of his mind, Phillips says he loves the club too much to leave.

Asked by Radio Yorkshire whether he had any desire to go out on loan, he said: "It's always in the back of your mind, but I'm from love Leeds and I love Leeds so I don't want to be playing anywhere else."

"Yeah it's always frustrating not playing, but I believe that when I'm not playing I'm working hard, trying to get that recognition to play and I've done that."

The Whites host Preston North End tomorrow, having beaten Bolton last weekend in their Championship opener, before beating Port Vale 4-1 in a first-round League Cup clash.

Phillips is almost guaranteed to start, providing he is fit to do so, after head coach Thomas Christiansen confirmed that Mateusz Klich and Liam Bridcutt are not in the squad.
