Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise has his say on Philippe Coutinho's transfer situation.
Liverpool are heading into the brand new Premier League campaign with star player Philippe Coutinho’s future still hanging in the balance.
After a series of conflicting reports, on Friday it has been reported that Coutinho has indeed officially requested a move away from Anfield.
According to reports from the Guardian, Coutinho requested his transfer via email, but the Reds have rejected it straightaway.
Liverpool have already turned down bids of around £72 million and £90.4 million from Barcelona, and are steadfast in their decision that the player won’t be sold this summer.
This could be Coutinho’s last-ditch attempt to force through a move, but his timing could not be any worse.
Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise has taken to social media platform Twitter to let know his verdict on the saga.
He feels that Coutinho loves the club very much. The timing of his transfer request is "bad though".
Coutinho has asked to leave @LFC What now FSG? Klopp? Not what we needed before the first game!— John Arne Riise (@JARiiseOfficial) August 11, 2017
Tough situation for the club and player. We want to keep him as he is brilliant! He wants to leave as Barca is a dream for him. Not easy— John Arne Riise (@JARiiseOfficial) August 11, 2017
We all know Coutinho loves Liverpool. Always will. No reason to hate him. Respect that players have different dreams. Needs sorting out asap— John Arne Riise (@JARiiseOfficial) August 11, 2017
The timing of this transfer request is bad though! Sooo many ways he could have played this better. For the club, teammates and fans.— John Arne Riise (@JARiiseOfficial) August 11, 2017
Liverpool face Watford away in the Premier League on Saturday, where Coutinho will miss with an alleged back injury.
