Aston Villa have been linked with Sheffield Wednesday forward Jordan Rhodes in recent times.

Steve Bruce may have dropped a hint that Aston Villa are still searching for a new striker at his latest press conference, which was broadcast on the club's official website.

Bruce was asked the name the best player he has played with and against in the Premier League era earlier today.

His response was Eric Cantona and Alan Shearer, but it was more notable for the suggestion that Villa may just be looking to bring in another forward.

“Cantona and Shearer… hopefully by the end of the transfer window we’ll have something like that up-front for ourselves,” the claret and blues boss said.

Bruce’s comments seem to suggest that Villa are still on the hunt for a new striker.

Villa have been linked with Sheffield Wednesday forward Jordan Rhodes in the Daily Mail this week, although owner Tony Xia has batted aside those rumours.

Villa already have an enviable collection of forwards, with the likes of Scott Hogan, Gabriel Agbonlahor, Jonathan Kodjia and Ross McCormack already at the Midlands club.

However, with the future of McCormack uncertain, it could be that Villa make a move to bring in a new number nine before the end of the month.
