Hull make first move in pursuit of Oxford's Marvin Johnson with a £1m bid for the Leeds target.

Hull City could well be winning the race to sign Marvin Johnson from Oxford United after submitting a £1m bid for the 26-year-old, according to the Sun.

The Yorkshire Post reports that Leeds United are the Tigers' biggest rivals for Johnson's signature, while Derby County and Leicester City are also keeping a close eye on things.

However, there is still some good news for the Whites in their own pursuit of the versatile U's star, as Hull's offer falls some way short of the £2m Oxford would want to allow the left-sided player to leave - claims the Hull Daily Mail.

Johnson can play anywhere down the left flank, having operated as both a winger and a full-back since his move to the Kassam Stadium from Motherwell in the summer of 2016.

Despite often playing in defence the former Kidderminster Harriers ace caught many eyes last season with six goals and 11 assists for the League One side in all competitions.

It is believed that Johnson feels he is now ready to test himself at Championship level and with Hull having failed to meet the reported asking price, there is still time for Leeds to swoop in.
