Hull City have turned down a bid from Burnley for midfielder Sam Clucas, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Burnley are keen to bolster their midfield options and have identified Clucas as one of their top targets

The Clarets, who money to spend from the sale of Andre Gray to Watford earlier this week, are understood to have made a bid of £7million to Hull for Clucas which was immediately rejected by the Tigers.

Clucas was one of Hull's shining lights last season despite their relegation to the Championship, having missed just one Premier League game all season.

The 26-year-old, who signed a new three-year deal at Hull last summer, is understood to be keen on a move back to the Premier League with Newcastle also interested in his services.

Hull are not keen on selling Clucas after losing a number of key performers following their relegation and they want to keep Clucas as they look to mount a bid for promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche is determined to strengthen his squad before the close of the transfer window and it remains to be seen if he will come back with an improved offer for former Chesterfield man Clucas.
