Davinson Sanchez can be a truly outstanding signing for Tottenham

Davinson Sanchez of Colombia looks on during a friendly match between Spain and Colombia at La Nueva Condomina stadium on June 7, 2017 in Murcia, Spain.

Tottenham have been linked to Davinson Sanchez.

Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez, The Sun report.

Sanchez, just 21, is an outstanding talent who has already represented Colombia at senior level.

Tottenham are keen on the centre-back who is valued at £35 million, which would be a club record fee for Tottenham to pay.

Sanchez would slot perfectly into a three man defence at the back, but he would also threaten to break up Tottenham's two-man partnership of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen - he is that talented.

It is just the type of signing unhappy defender Danny Rose refers to the club needing to make. He told The Sun: “I want world-class players to come through the front door to make you fight for your place.”

Sanchez has the ability to be top class. In recent months he has been linked by AS to Barcelona and by Voetball Nieuws to Real Madrid.

This season he became the first Ajax defender since 2011/12 to score more than five goals in a season. The last man to do so was Tottenham's Jan Vertonghen.

Ajax fans on Voetball Zoen even debated earlier this year that Sanchez is better than both Vertonghen and Alderweireld.

One comment read: "Sanchez is 10x better than and Vertonghen and Alderweireld. These 2 defenders have not yet shown anything at international level. Do not let it go so often at club level or with their national team. Overshadowed players. Sanchez has won the Copa Libertadores and is on the way to possible profit in the Europa League with Ajax."

Another wrote: "Jan Vertonghen was defensively never as strong as Sanchez. Vertonghen was really a great defender just because he just put 10 in and often on important moments."

While comments like this won't be universally agreed upon, the fact it is even being discussed is a sign of the rapid progress he is making in his career.

Tottenham will understandably be cautious in spending a record fee, but they might be onto a winner in Sanchez who will strengthen a defensive unit which is already the best in the Premier League.
