Former Glasgow Rangers forward Martyn Waghorn has swapped Ibrox for Ipswich Town.

Rangers and Ipswich fans have been reacting on Twitter to the news that the Gers confirmed on their official website earlier this week that Martyn Waghorn has swapped Ibrox for Portman Road.

The 27-year-old endured a fairly mixed time during his two years in Scotland. His first year with the Light Blues probably could not have gone much better as he scored 20 goals in just 25 league games to inspire the side to promotion back to the Scottish Premiership, and 28 times in 36 games in all competitions.

Unfortunately, injury plagued the latter stages of his first season with the club, and he never really rediscovered his best form for the Gers, scoring just seven times in 32 top flight games.

And after new manager Pedro Caixinha brought the likes of Eduardo Herrera and Alfredo Morelos to Ibrox this summer, it appeared that Waghorn faced too great an uphill battle trying to keep his place in the team.

Ipswich have been the beneficiaries however, bringing the forward back to the Championship shortly after landing another former Gers striker Joe Garner during this window.

The news has prompted plenty of reaction on social media, with Rangers fans generally wishing Waghorn well given that he did play a crucial role in helping the club get back to the top flight, while the Ipswich supporters appear to be optimistic that the club have pulled off a good piece of business.

Interestingly, a couple of the Gers fans have urged the club to now go out and get either Jamie Walker or Steven Naismith before the window closes following Waghorn's departure.
