Pontus Jansson shares delight after new Leeds deal announced for Gaetano Berardi

Berardi has signed up for another three seasons at Leeds United.

Leeds United's Pontus Jansson has shared his delight at news of a new three-year contract for fellow Whites defender Gaetano Berardi.

Berardi's existing deal was due to expire at the end of the coming campaign, but the Switzerland international has followed in the footsteps of two more Leeds players, Kalvin Phillips and Tyler Denton, by putting pen to paper within the past week.

And posting on Twitter afterwards, Jansson wrote:

A 2014 capture from Sampdoria, Berardi is one of just two of that summer's recruits who remain at Elland Road, along with Souleymane Doukara.

And despite struggling with injuries at the start of last season, the 28-year-old went on to establish himself as a regular in a Leeds side which narrowly missed out on a place in the Championship play-offs - often keeping out regular left-back Charlie Taylor, who has since joined Burnley.

Berardi began the new campaign as Thomas Christiansen's first choice for the position, but suffered a dislocated shoulder as the Whites' beat Bolton 3-2 in their season opener on Sunday, and it remains to be seen how long he will out for.

What do you make of Leeds prospects this season?
