Che Adams of Birmingham holds off Mustapha Carayol of Nottingham Forest
Derby County have made a bid for Birmingham City star Che Adams, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Rams boss Gary Rowett admitted after last week's draw with Sunderland in their opening Championship game of the season that he was looking to strengthen his attacking options at th iPro Stadium and he has identified Adams as his top target.
Derby are in the market for attacking reinforcements after selling Tom Ince to Huddersfield Town earlier this summer and Rowett sees Adams as someone who can provide goals and assists in his side.
Adams enjoyed a impressive debut season at Birmingham last season, making 42 appearances in all competitions and scoring seven goals to help the club stay up in the Championship.
A number of Premier League and Championship clubs have shown an interest in Adams this summer and Birmingham have been fighting to keep hold of their prize asset.
Derby have now thrown their hat into the right and made an approach to Birmingham for Adams as Rowett looks to add to his squad before the close of the transfer window.
Birmingham are reluctant to lose the former Sheffield United youngster and have been in talks over a new deal for Adams in a bid to fend off the growing interest in the player.
