HITC Sport understands Oxford are set to sign the Swedish international.
FC Metalist Kharkiv’s Taison (L) vies with then Malmo midfielder Ivo Pekalski
Oxford United have agreed a fee for Halmstad midfielder Ivo Pekalski, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Oxford boss Pep Clotet is looking to strengthen his midfield options before the close of the transfer window and he has identified Pekalski.
Clotet knows all about Pekalski having worked with the player during his time as Malmo assistant manager in 2010 and he is keen to be reunited with him at the Kassam Stadium.
Pekalski won the Swedish championship under Clotet’s stewardship in 2010 and he stayed four years with Malmo before joining BK Hacken in 2013.
The 26-year-old, who joined Halmstad in March 2016, is out of contract this December and Halmstad would prefer to sell now rather than risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires.

Pekalski has won two caps for Sweden, but he has seen his international aspirations interupted by injuries after being forced to miss a number of call-ups.
Oxford, who won their opening League One game of the season at Oldham, are looking to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion and it looks like Pekalski is set to be the next new face in at the Kassam Stadium.
