The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has generated plenty of headlines this summer but a move seems to be off the table.
Just when Tottenham Hotspur fans thought they had heard the end of the Eric Dier transfer rumours, the Sun claimed Bayern Munich were planning a £50million move for the versatile England international.
It was a left-field suggestion, and German newspaper Sport Bild has been quick to comment on the rumour, seemingly casting it into the transfer bin along with so many of the bizarre suggestions football fans get used to at this time of year.
Dier has been tipped for a big-money switch for months now, even though Tottenham understandably have no intention of parting company with the 23-year-old.
Manchester United have now moved on, bringing Nemanja Matic to Old Trafford, so another name has been picked - seemingly at random - with Bayern thrown into the mix.
Sport Bild were quick to throw cold water on the suggestion with the following comment: "The prospect of Bayern hitting the transfer market again on this scale seems more than questionable. Especially since (Carlo) Ancelotti has already announced he has completed his squad."
Dier has a long-term contract at Tottenham and played a vital role in their second-place Premier League finish last season.
While he may struggle to get minutes in his preferred midfield position, Tottenham's presence in four competitions this season, including the Champions League, means manager Mauricio Pochettino needs his full squad for the challenges ahead.
