The Mirror have reported that West Ham United want to sign Sunderland centre-back Lamine Kone.
At £20 million, the Sunderland defender is quite pricey - especially for a club who have spent like West Ham this summer, and have two big earners - Javier Hernandez and Joe Hart - on the books.
Financially it could be tough for the Irons, but there might be a way in which to reduce the price: by offering Declan Rice in a season-long loan in return.
The 18-year-old has looked a superb prospect for the Hammers in pre season with a series of fine displays at centre-back.
But if their interest in Kone is genuine then Slaven Bilic will struggle to give him game time, with competition for centre-back spots already fierce in East London.
The Irishman is a fine talent and a spell in the Championship with Sunderland could be beneficial for both clubs.
He's young, but if you're good enough then you're old enough, as the saying goes. He is unlikely to be Premier League ready for now, but the Championship could be just what he needs and would be far more beneficial to his development than another stint with the Under-23s.
