Aston Villa rounded off their pre-season campaign with a 0-0 draw with Watford, but there was cause for celebration regardless.
Gabriel Agbonlahor missed a good chance in the first half, while Henri Lansbury saw a penalty saved by Huerelho Gomes on what was a bit of a damp squib at Villa Park.
Fortunately, some of Steve Bruce's summer signings looked quite impressive.
John Terry and Ahmed Elmohamady both made their home debuts for Aston Villa after joining the club, but it was Glenn Whelan who seems to have stolen many of the plaudits.
The Irish midfielder posted a calm and assured performance in the middle of the park for Bruce, having joined from Stoke City a little earlier this month.
And fans of the West Midlands club are quite enthused about how his debut panned out.

Think Whelan will be a very good signing for us. Him Elmo with Terry, we got some decent business done. Looking forward to next week #avfc— Luke (@lukeg90) July 29, 2017
Glen Whelan was like Petrov at his finest today. Very very impressive performance #AVFC— Michael Nott (@BillBones84) July 29, 2017
Think Whelan's the name on most fans lips after that Alex, very impressive indeed. #avfc— Roger. W (@RogW38) July 29, 2017
Some nice play from us at times; Whelan was boss. Would have won that if Hogan had had Gabby's chances but a very decent showing #avfc— Zoe (@zk16204) July 29, 2017
After watching Glen Whelan today I thought what a cracking singing he is #avfc— Luke Underhill (@LukeUnderhill9) July 29, 2017
Well impressed with Glenn Whelan today. Far from a 'wow' signing but he could be a key player for us this season #AVFC— Paul (@WordOfMayo) July 29, 2017
