Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be ideal big-name signing for Newcastle United

Rafael Benitez has suggested that Newcastle United have the money to spend big this summer.

Earlier this summer Rafael Benitez suggested that Newcastle United do have the funds available to them to make a marquee signing this summer.

Benitez’s first priority was to bolster his squad, but the Spanish boss insisted to the Daily Mirror that he could bring in a high-profile player, if one became available.

And an irresistible opportunity may just have presented itself to Newcastle.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain of Arsenal controls the ball during the match between the Western Sydney Wanderers and Arsenal FC at ANZ Stadium on July 15, 2017 in Sydney, Australia.

Arsenal may have to offload Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer, in a deal worth around £30 million.

At the moment Chelsea and Liverpool are both interested in the England international, as per the Daily Mirror, but Oxlade-Chamberlain is said to want a central role.

That could be difficult for Chelsea or Liverpool to offer, but Newcastle could bring Oxlade-Chamberlain in and make him their number 10.

The Magpies are likely to still need an increase in creativity, if they are to be a major threat at Premier League level.

And Oxlade-Chamberlain would have the ability to become the creative fulcrum of Benitez’s team.

The former Southampton man is still only 23, meaning he has plenty of time to develop.

And if Newcastle were able to bring the skilful attacker to St. James’ Park, it would really show they mean business ahead of the new campaign.
