Aston Villa have not brought the reported Leeds United and Sunderland target to Germany.

The Chronicle has reported Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has not included linked-away defender Tommy Elphick in the club's pre-season tour of Germany.

The 29-year-old has been linked with a move to Leeds United and Sunderland this summer, according to The Birmingham Mail.

And Aston Villa have done little to stem the tide of speculation over his future by omitting him from their pre-season visit.

Christopher Samba's arrival has added to the competition at centre-half and an exit certainly seems plausible now, given the latest development, but it remains to be seen if his omission is linked to his future or merely an injury.

Leeds are in the market for a central defender, despite signing Matthew Pennington this week.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported earlier in the week that the Elland Road side were interested in two centre-backs, with Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper their only recognised options prior to Pennington's arrival on loan.

Thomas Christiansen's side kick off their Championship campaign with a trip to newly-promoted Bolton Wanderers on August 6.
