Newcastle should attempt to hijack PL rival's move for Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho

The Manchester City man is reportedly close to sealing a switch to Leicester City, but Newcastle United should consider gatecrashing the party.

Magpies boss Rafa Benitez still has a lot of work to do at St James' Park this summer, if he is to build a squad capable of enjoying a successful Premier League campaign.

According to the Chronicle, the Spaniard is prioritising the signing of an established striker over anything else, in an attempt to add ore firepower to his forward line, and he should consider hijacking Leicester City's move for Manchester City hitman Kelechi Iheanacho.

Pep Guardiola confirmed that the 20-year-old will be leaving the Etihad within the next 10 days, as reported by the Sun, and whilst the Foxes are leading the race for his signature, nothing has been finalised as yet, and until the Nigerian signs on the dotted line, he must be considered as fair game.

And he would be the ideal addition to Rafa's squad. He is quick along the ground, capable in the air, and clinical when presented with a goalscoring opportunity.

Iheanacho would be a superb partner for Dwight Gayle, should Benitez opt to play with two strikers through the middle, and the pair could form a potent partnership - one that would be capable of enduring the test of time.

His blistering pace would stretch the pitch for Newcastle, providing greater space for the likes of Jonjo Shelvey to operate in the middle of the park, which should in turn equate to Newcastle gaining more control during games.

For £25 million, signing Iheanacho would be a real coup for the Magpies, and with a manager of Benitez' calibre and reputation at the helm, Newcastle could surely tempt the City star into choosing Tyneside over the east Midlands.
