Rangers should look at Aston Villa's Gary Gardner

Gary Gardner celebrates scoring the first goal for Aston Villa

Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers should consider the Aston Villa man.

According to The Mail, Rangers are in talks with former Fulham midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe following his release from the Cottagers.

The 24-year-old is looking for a club and the publication claims that Rangers, in addition to Barnsley and Preston North End, are speaking to the ex-Manchester United man.

But another Championship midfielder is potentially available and the Gers should look at bringing in Aston Villa's Gary Gardener.

HITC Sport reported on Friday that the 25-year-old is being monitored by a number of Championship clubs after Aston Villa did not bring him on their pre-season tour.

And if Pedro Caixinha is interested in Tunnicliffe then signing Gardner makes more sense.

According to Transfermarkt, he is valued at £1.7 million and although Tunnicliffe is free, Gardner is a more talented footballer who would do better in Glasgow.

He is a good Championship player, having made over 80 appearances in the second tier following loan spells with Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday, but he is not a great one and a spell in the Scottish Premiership could reinvigorate his career a bit.

Gardner has had a rough time of it with Aston Villa fans as well and how he would love to feel wanted by a fanbase. Succeeding at Ibrox would give him that adoration in spades.
