David Brooks caught the eye again for Sheffield United on Tuesday, scoring the winner in the Blades' friendly success at Chesterfield after picking up the ball inside his own half and leaving a succession of Spireites defenders in his wake.
That's not necessarily a good thing, however, as many United supporters will tell you.
The League One champions have been in similar situations before, often culminating in the loss of other Shirecliffe-developed talents, such Kyle Walker, Kyle Naughton, Matthew Lowton, Harry Maguire and others - many of whom are now established Premier League stars.
And given that Everton, who raided Bramall Lane for Dominic Calvert-Lewin during last summer's transfer window, have already been credited with an interest in Brooks this time around [Telegraph], there is a growing sense of inevitability among the Blades' fanbase that the 20-year-old will soon follow DCL to Goodison Park.
Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin
The move would certainly make sense, with former Sheffield United defenders David Unsworth and Jamie Hoyland currently employed by Everton, while Brooks grew up 20 miles east of Liverpool in Warrington.
