Swansea City and Brighton and Hove Albion are chasing Bordeaux defender Frederic Guilbert, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Guilbert is back at Bordeaux after spending a successful season on loan at Caen last season.

The 22-year-old made 26 appearances in all competitions for Caen last season and they are keen to turn his loan deal into a permanent arrangement.

France Under-21 international Guilbert made his debut for Bordeaux at the end of the 2014/15 season before becoming a regular at right-back the following season.

However, following the arrival of Jocelyn Gourvennec in the summer of 2016 he found himself out of favour and he joined Caen in search of regular first-team football.

Swansea and Premier League new boys Brighton haven been alerted to Guilbert after watching him in action on several occasions last season.

Swansea and Brighton are both in the market for a new right-back before the close of the transfer window and Guilbert is thought to figure highly on their wanted lists.

Guilbert is understood to be available for a cut-price fee of €1.5million (£1.3million) and Swansea and Brighton will have to move quickly if they are to beat Caen to his signature.
