The Arsenal goalkeeper looks set to move permanently to Serie A, having been on the books at the Gunners since 2006.

Football Italia is reporting that the Wojciech Szczesny is expected to sign for Juventus in a £7.8 million move.

Arsenal had been holding out for a higher transfer fee, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, but transfer talks are nearing their conclusion.

Wojciech Szczesny has not found the need to return to the Premier League, where he initially made his name, having then found it difficult to hold down the number one spot at Arsenal.

Szczesny had to share the number one sport with David Ospina in the last full season he had at Arsenal in 2014-15. But the arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea led to Szczesny being moved out on loan at Roma for the last two seasons.

Szczesny, 27, will want to be competing for the starting jersey with the World Cup due at the end of next season. But he will be up against the legendary Gianluigi Buffon who at 39 is not ready to hang his boots up just yet.

Buffon is talking of retiring next year and Massimiliano Allegri sees Szczesny as Buffon’s successor, reports the Daily Mail.

The Poland international’s performances for Roma grabbed the attention of Juventus. Having only conceded 38 goals last season, Roma stormed to a second placed finish behind Juve. Szczesny is now expected to replace Nito, 27, who left Juventus for Valencia earlier this summer.

In some ways, Szczesny has surpassed what Arsenal could offer now, as the Gunners will be in the Europa League next season. Playing at the Juventas Stadium really puts Szczesny in the big league of top goal keepers. If Szczesny does succeed Buffon, he will be in a great position to win major club honours.
