Report suggests Tottenham cool interest in Ross Barkley; perfect time for West Ham to swoop in

The Everton star is a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports, but West Ham United should gatecrash the party.

According to the Daily Mail, Spurs have cooled their interest in signing Toffees midfielder Ross Barkley, as they pursue other targets.

This could leave the path clear for the Hammers to make a bold move, and make the 23-year-old their marquee summer signing.

Slaven Bilic has really struggled in the transfer window so far, and has been desperately searching for top class talent, in a bid to improve upon his squad after last season's poor Premier League campaign.

The signing of the Blues star would undoubtedly lift the gloom at the London Stadium, however, and would be a major boost for the West Ham fans, who are growing increasingly more frustrated with their club's dismal efforts in the transfer window.

Barkley is exactly the kind of acquisition the east London outfit should be looking to make. He is undoubtedly one of the most talented attacking midfielders on his day, and if given the love, confidence and support from Bilic and the Hammers faithful, he might be able to finally realise his true potential.

The England international is the type of player who can change a game in an instant, with a little bit of magic - something that West Ham have been desperately bereft of since Dimitri Payet's acrimonious exit from the club in January.

The Everton man is technically brilliant, and comfortable when in possession of the football. He also has exceptional vision, and his ability to pick out a killer pass would surely add more potency to the Hammers' attacking play.

Whether the east Londoners could tempt Barkley into moving to the London Stadium remains to be seen, but with the 2018 World Cup on the horizon, the guarantee of first-team football could very well play a major factor in his decision.

And if Bilic does bring the Liverpool born star to east London this summer, it would be a real statement of intent form the Hammers.
