Leicester City are demanding £40 million for winger Riyad Mahrez.

According to reports from The Daily Mail, Serie A giants AS Roma are leading the race to sign Leicester City’s treasured winger, Riyad Mahrez.

The Giallorossi are looking for an able replacement of Mohamed Salah, who left the club to join the Premier League outfit Liverpool this summer.

The report claims that Roma’s sporting director, Monchi, has spoken to Leicester’s head of recruitment, Eduardo Macia, already.

The Italians have offered only £21 million plus add-ons, which is well below the Foxes’ £40 million valuation of the player. The offer has been swiftly rejected.

However, The Sun reports that Roma have agreed terms with the highly rated winger

Mahrez, the 2015/16 PFA player of the year, has a contract with the club till 2020, which gives Leicester an upper hand to demand a high transfer fee for him.

The Algerian winger has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, but the Gunners are reluctant to meet the high price-tag.

The Sun reported last month that Mahrez is prepared to join the Gunners despite knowing that they cannot offer him Champions League football.

The Daily Mail adds that Premier League rivals Everton are also interested in Mahrez. Their interest probably has cooled down, as Everton are trying to secure a deal for Gylfi Sigurdsson.

However, with Swansea demanding a fee in the north of £50 million, as reported by The Times, Everton might look for Mahrez as he represents a slightly cheaper alternative.
